Who is Mayor, Dr. Hilda González?

Mayor, Dr. Hilda González has deep roots in Granger. Her grandparents migrated from Texas and briefly settled in Crew Port before making their home on East 1st Street at the former train depot in Granger to raise their children in 1950. Her first job as a client of the OIC of Washington program was with Radio KDNA at the age of 14. Mayor González worked alongside Mr. Balderas organizing records and cassettes in the library of music and assisted with marketing strategies by creating public service announcements and commercials. She is the eldest of six (6) children and the first in her family to earn a doctor degree. Mayor Gonzalez’s experience with Granger is best described as a tapestry woven with vibrant and exquisite fabrics of families, community, unity, love, empathy, strength, appreciation, and resilience. Mayor González believes the heart of Granger are the families and love community members have for each other.

Experience

Mayor González has a passion for public service and learning. She served students of all walks of life as an educator, administrator, grant writer, advocate, advisor, and mentor for 24 years before retiring in 2022. Her passion for serving the community began in 2014. She served as a committee member of the Granger High School Student Leadership Instruction Team (SLIT), the Granger Lions Club as a member and past Secretary, the City of Granger Planning Development Commission as a member and past Chair, member of the City of Granger Council and varies City committees prior to serving as Mayor Elect in 2024. Furthermore, Mayor, Dr. González earned her GED, Associates, Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences, Master of Public Administration, and Doctor of Educational Leadership all the while building her professional career. The collective professional experience as an educator, coupled with her service to the community, and complimented by her vast personal education has yielded her the opportunity of serving her community holistically. In her role as Mayor, Dr.  González serves on local, regional, and state boards and committees such as the Granger Wellness Coalition Chair, member of the Granger Chamber of Commerce, Transaction/DRYVE Committee Vice Chair, member of the Association of Washington (AWC) Small City Advisory Committee, and the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) Vice Chair among others keeping the City of Granger a top priority of the respective decision makers.
