FIREWORKS
Mayor Trevino stated that he wanted to clarify the City’s action not to ban the fireworks during the CO-VID Pandemic because of recent posting on Facebook. He said that more than three weeks ago he contacted the City’s attorney to see if it was a possibility to ban the use of fireworks this year because of the Corona Virus. In speaking with the attorney, because the Fireworks are regulated by an RCW and the City adopted the Ordinance with the same conditions, this action can’t be done by the City because any changes would need to be done a year in advance. Many concerns were discussed, one being visitors from other cities coming to Granger with symptoms and spreading the virus, to the citizens having to follow the Governor’s requirements for being in Phase 1. Also discussed was the need to try and put in place an emergency clause in our Ordinance that would allow the City to stop the lighting of fireworks during such emergencies as we have now. It was suggested that it may be to late for this year, but solutions and options should be discussed with the City attorney after the Fourth of July.
Debbie Klueber: Asked if fireworks are allowed in Granger or not.
Mayor Trevino: Yes, fireworks are allowed.
Jose Diaz: Stated he would challenge the city clause, please look at the RCW
Mayor Trevino: Repeated Mr. Diaz’s comment to the City Council.
Patrick and Roy Cardenas: How many people are allowed to gather.
Mayor Trevino: You are to follow Governor’s phase 1, 5 people or immediate family.
Councilwoman Sharp: Addressed the public and stated that she appreciated the public comments and thanked them for taking time to listen to the City Council meeting.
