Valdemar and Valdemero Valenzuela, representing the Lions Club addressed the Council stating they had some good news and some bad news. They preceded with the good news first and explained that the Lions Club donates money throughout the community to the schools, the city and other various organizations from the money made during the Cherry Festival. They presented checks in the amount of $350.00 to the Fire Department, Parks & Rec Department and the Police Department. They then preceded to inform the Council that they as members of the Lions Club were hanging up their hats. They have been doing the Cherry Festival for about 15 years and are ready for a break. They have informed the other lions club members in hopes some of them would like to take over doing the parade, making the float, the pageant, and the carnival and concessions in the park. If no one steps up from the Lions Club to do some of these events during the Cherry Festival, they asked if the City would be interested in taking some of these events in order to continue having the Cherry Festival. Mayor Trevino thanked them for their service to the community and for the donation and would take the proposal into consideration.
